A lot of the focus this week (days) was done towards the movement of integrating the 4 C’s into our classrooms by having people from the very top all the way down to students working together to accomplish this. I truly believe that these four characteristics are highly important to prepare students for the “real life”. But as a teacher I honestly feel very frustrated. After seeing the case study that I observed, doing the readings and from previous class discussions it feels really frustrating that I don’t have all the technological tools available to me and my students. I have 5 chrome books for my 32+ students to use. If I ask my students to get out their laptops about 8 students on average will get their devices out. I know I have and am doing activities in the classroom that involve the 4 C’s but it lacks the technology part. If I had enough resources along with my colleagues I am sure that we will be more open to try and take risks in our own classrooms and try assignments or projects that involve more students to work with technology. As mentioned in the ACOT article, they “found that teachers were not as interested in learning about technology when access to technology seemed unlikely.” The crazy thing about this is that this quote comes from a study from 1994, we’re in 2018!
In regards to what I will do to make sure that 21st century learning is happening in my classroom is that I will have to adapt these skills while integrating technology with the resources that I have. I need to learn on how to better outreach to colleagues at the current school site that I am in or from any other educators and learn from them when it comes to using technology in the classroom. I feel frustrated with the lack of resources but I have to get that out of my mind and try to think as positively as I can and implement technology in the tasks and projects I already do in my Math and AVID classes.

I am really confused by the district not providing you with the resources that you need. We consistently talk in the district about preparing students for 21st century skills, yet we aren't providing our teachers what they need to help our students learn these skills. I'm also curious if your students don't bring computers due to the fact they don't own them, or if they are forgetting to pack them before school. If it is the latter, I can definitely relate and it can be really frustrating . Like I said previously, every student at my school has one, but there are usually 5 or so everyday that forget to bring it with them. I really respect the fact that you work to stay positive and do the best that you can for your students with the limited resources you have.

I can't even imagine not having the resources for technology in 2018. When I first came into my classroom, I had iPads, which sure wasn't great for me but then they eventually uprgaded to chromebooks for half the class until finally I have them for the entire class. The point is, my principal knew that when I first came to the school, I had a lot of ideas to implement with technology and immediately found it in the budget to get me access. 7 months later and now I can finally do some of the things I've always imagined. Math has a lot of potential with the use of technology and I can't see how your site isn't providing you the resources you need to make your classroom a 21st century environment.

I hear you and understand your frustrations with the lack of technology you have within your classroom. How does your school district expect you to be "all you can be" if they do not give you the proper resources to teach "all you can be"? How can your kids compete in this dog-eat-dog world when they are not nourished enough to compete in the classrooms compared to other school districts who do? FSUSD was once like this and I went through the same frustrations you did. (Back in the day when I was young but I'm not a kid anymore but some days I wish I was a kid again.)
